Cascais, a charming fisherman’s village nestled in the ‘garden of Europe planted by the sea’. With mild temperatures, a chill atmosphere, and a calm sea (as long as you steer clear from Hell’s Mouth). Does the thought of all this calm and tranquility have you itching for some excitement?
Should we tell you how you can make your heart beat faster?
Whether you live for the adrenaline rush or you’re planning a special day with your friends, our thrilling activities are here to deliver!
Flying
Is it up in the air that you feel the freest? Paragliding might do it for you.
With roots in São Domingos de Rana and wings to fly, Espiral — Escola de Voo can teach you paragliding 101. Alternatively, you can book a tandem flight and, basically, piggyback on a professional paraglider and let them do the hard work while you focus on the view.
VOODESONHO is another school based in Cascais with certified instructors that have been introducing people to the magic of paragliding for over two decades. They take you out flying in Cascais, Sintra, and Lisbon. They offer both powered and free flights.
Pro tip: There are frequent discounts for this kind of activity on coupon websites like Odisseias.
Skateboarding
No matter your experience, you’re welcome at the Gerações skate park. All kinds of people come here to ride looking to improve their skills or to hang out with a beautiful coastal backdrop. All you need is a skateboard. But, if you don’t have one yet, lucky for you, there’s a skater-owned and run shop inside the park called Pop SkateShop.
Fun water activities
Time to get in the water!
Right in the Cascais marina, there are a few ways to rev up your adrenaline. You and your friends can get in a float towed by a boat, wakeboard, and water ski. If you want to be in control of your speed, consider jet skiing. You can either rent a jet ski, combine a jet ski experience with a boat ride, or even go on a jet ski safari. All of these activities are offered by Aquastart.
Surf, kitesurf and windsurf
No article about Cascais is ever really complete without mentioning these ubiquitous water sports. And you really have plenty of schools to choose from. We’ll give you a few names.
At Kitesurf Adventures, a few steps away from the Guincho beach, you can learn how to surf and kitesurf. They have a wide diversity of packages combining accommodation, transport, and different sports — and not just water sports, there is rock climbing too, and yoga, to relax after all the excitement! You can check and book these online. Pick-ups are available in Cascais, Guincho, as well as Lisbon.
Nearby, you’ll also find Moana Surf School, with a rich adventure sports menu: surf, kitesurf, mountain bike, trekking, and rock climbing. Other than rentals, they offer lessons, and special activities for bachelor and bachelorette parties, team buildings, and events. You can find all the information on their website, including booking instructions.
Clube Naval de Cascais (‘Cascais’ Naval Club’) has been promoting and developing water sports in town since 1938. They offer seasonal windsurf courses and other nautical activities, so just keep an eye out for those.
